As a surfer and shaper of over 30 years, my goal is to create custom surfboards that put the end user (the surfer) where they want to be. Every board is hand built at the Lineup facility in Huntington Beach, CA using the highest quality materials and the finest attention to detail. Each board is one of a kind and custom tailored to your personal dimensions, ability as a surfer and most importantly, what you want to be able to do on the wave.

Shaper bio – Jack Sykes

I started surfing 1972 at well-known OC breaks like Blackies, Newport RJs and The Newport Pier. Like most surfers, I caught the bug and wanted to learn more about what made the engagement of a wave in the surfing sense possible. Furthermore, I had an immediate interest in figuring out what I could do to enhance my experience through experimenting with design tweaks to my standard surf craft. I started building my own boards at home in 1976. Little did I know this would be the place I would start my shaping career. After making a few of my own boards, I went down to Wave Tools and purchased a wave tools twin fin shaped by Bob Hurley and something clicked. I then started riding boards shaped by Lance Collins, the founder of Wave Tools.

These designs not only worked well for me as a surfer but also led me to the path that I would choose for inspiration for my own designs. For the next few years, I would surf for Wave Tools and work in the factory learning all aspects of surfboard production. I was immersed in the culture that I had sought out and it was obvious that making surfboards was my passion. In the early 80’s surf culture had once again shifted its attention and I followed. The first Lineup factory opened in early 1982, where I would focus on building progressive shapes that would compliment modern surfing style as well as the cultural landscape of Orange County during that time. From there, I grew into my own as a shaper learning and experimenting, always trying to push the envelope while maintaining traditional methods. The rest is history...
